Newcastle University hosted an Institute lecturer

Newcastle University, through Dr. David Bain, Master’s Supervisor, hosted Hazhan Khalid by presenting a seminar on the situation of women journalists in the Kurdistan Region.

In the seminar, she provided an overview of journalism in the Kurdistan Region and the position and role of women in different fields. She then discussed the results of two studies on the situation of women journalists and the obstacles they face, based on the 2021 and 2023 reports published in the annual report of the Metro Centre for the Protection of Journalists’ Rights.

She also talked about initiatives and efforts that can improve the situation of women journalists, including those from academic centers. For example, she highlighted the efforts of the Digital Media Department of Kurdistan Technical Institute in educating young people.

Finally, a discussion was held with the participants about organizing joint efforts to amplify the voice of women journalists, which is expected to be fruitful. The seminar was held on Wednesday, May 22.
